1M1: Hollywood Horns of the Golden Years
1M1 is a documentary film about the history of LA film studio horn players from the 1920s through the 1960s. Premiered at the 2011 International Horn Symposium, this film features interviews with LA horn legends, and follows the development of the motion picture industry. This film was made by hornist Annie Bosler.
Premiere of a New Horn Concerto with Orchestra
Bruno Schneider will give the world premiere of a concerto written by American composer Eric Chasalow. This concerto will be performed and recorded later in January 2012 with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Watch for an article about the concerto in the fall issues of the Horn Call.
And on That Point...
Orchestra! Saturday evening’s concert will be with a full orchestra. In addition to having a premiere, we will hear some famous works for horn including the Concerto for Four Horns by Robert Schumann (with JD Shaw, John Ericson, Lawrence Lowe, and Daniel Katzen), the Concerto for Two Horns in E flat by F.J. Haydn, and other works to be announced soon.
Everybody Loves Chamber Music
The Mill Ave Chamber Players and the Phoenix Chamber Brass will give the US premiere of a work written by Kerry Turner. Learn more about Navajo Mandala. More chamber music will be part of the weekend, perhaps even an appearance of the Brahms’ Trio!
Masterclasses
The SWHC is very happy to announce that Bruno Schneider will give a masterclass on Saturday at Noon and Gabe Kovach will be giving a masterclass about Orchestral Auditions on Friday.
Mass Horn Choir
Everyone will be invited to join the mass horn choir, which will rehearse both Saturday and Sunday mornings after warm-up (big announcement about who will be giving warm-ups soon!). The mass horn choir will be a part of the final concert on Sunday afternoon.
